A young man who engaged in highly dangerous stunts on an electric motorbike before throwing the vehicle off a bridge during a high-speed police chase has been handed a prison sentence. Owen Pendree, whose actions were heavily criticized by the court, received a 12-month custodial sentence and a consecutive driving ban following the dangerous escapade.
The incident unfolded when law enforcement officers observed Pendree operating an electric motorbike in an extremely hazardous manner. According to police reports, the defendant was seen performing “wheelies” and navigating traffic erratically, showing a blatant disregard for public safety. When officers attempted to pull him over, Pendree refused to comply, sparking a tense pursuit through busy public streets.
As the chase intensified, Pendree sought to evade capture by navigating through pedestrian areas and narrow pathways. Realizing that police officers were closing in on him, he rode onto a bridge. In a desperate bid to destroy evidence or hinder the pursuit, Pendree dismounted and hurled the heavy electric motorbike over the side of the bridge. The vehicle plunged to the ground below, creating an immediate hazard for any potential traffic or pedestrians underneath.
Following the disposal of the motorbike, Pendree attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, officers quickly cornered and apprehended him. During the subsequent court hearing, the prosecution detailed the sheer recklessness of his actions, emphasizing how easily the falling motorbike could have caused severe injury or death. The defense acknowledged the gravity of the situation, describing the behavior as highly impulsive.
In delivering the verdict, the presiding judge did not hold back, labeling Pendree’s conduct as incredibly “stupid” and dangerous. The court emphasized that a custodial sentence was necessary to deter others from engaging in such lawless behavior on public roads. Consequently, Pendree was sentenced to 12 months in prison and was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving license for an extended period, requiring him to pass an extended driving test before returning to the roads.
This incident highlights a growing concern among law enforcement agencies regarding the anti-social and dangerous use of high-powered electric motorbikes in urban areas. Authorities have warned that those who use these vehicles to evade law enforcement and endanger the public will face severe legal consequences.
